It is a hack piece by a left wing contributor - not the opinion of Forbes- duh : Here is why the article is all wrong ( and you too by the way) as outlined by Mr. Miller:


Here is a REAL analysis of the economic records of the two Presidents.

#1 the article claims Obama beats Reagan on employment - It simply picks out the 67th month after they took office and compared the unemployment rates - if we did that with FDR he had 18-19% unemployment and G.W. Bush at a 4.7% rate. Any analysis must put things into context and all economists measure recoveries from the end of the recession and forward (because that is the definition of what an economic recovery is) So when you compare 62 months after the end of the recessions each dealt with Reagan beats Obama 5.7% to 6.1%, we are 58 months after the peak of unemployment under obama he has lowered unemployment by 3.9 percentage points compared to Reagan at 4.8 points. (This doesn't even take into account that the labor participation rate has made Obama's unemployment look better)

#2 the article claims Obama beats Regan on economic growth - as I mentioned earlier the primary metric used to measure an economy is GDP and to measure it's growth it is growth of GDP. Obama has had less than 1/4th the growth that Reagan had and if you adjust inflation out of the numbers it's still less than 1/3rd of the growth in the recovery. This article doesn't even mention GDP at all - it's picks out a few manufacturing metrics that appear to help their cause.

#3 the article claims Obama beats Reagan on investment - while Reagan had a very impression record with the Dow Jones, Obama just happen to take the oath of office at the lowest point of the crash and so technically he did do better here. But it has actually only risen about 14% from the pre-crash high and Reagan took over at about the all time high at that point for the DOW and in increased 270% before black monday in Oct 1987 but left office with the DOW being up about 220% higher than it ever had been before he took office.

Anyone from Forbes or who thinks this is a good article who can explain the "Logic" behind these misrepresentations in the article, I would love to hear it. But I think Timothy is correct - the article is a joke.

The unemployment rate is cut in half? Try factoring in the labor participation rate (LPR). That has been artificially manipulated during the Community Organizer's terms. If the LPR was the same as when Bush was in office, the TRUE employment rate would be around 11%. The truth is, this "recovery" has been the worst on the history of the United States and so many people are frustrated that they have given up even looking for a job. Thus they don't report in at the unemployment office each month, thus they aren't counted as unemployed. But keep on believing the Community Organizer is doing a good job. (BTW… if things ARE getting so much better why did the Community Organizer ask to extend unemployment benefits? I mean, they used to be good for 26 weeks. Now they are at nearly two years and he wants MORE? Why?? If things are truly getting better we shouldn't need as much unemployment benefits.

I noticed you forgot to mention the national debt. How has that been going under your hero? Seems like someone, when he was running to be president, called Bush "unpatriotic" for adding $5 trillion in his eight years. Now, the Community Organizer has added more than $8 trillion in less than six years. It will likely each more then $10 trillion, thus doubling it, by the time he is out of office. So if Bush was "unpatriotic," what does that make your hero? Maybe a full-blown traitor?

Hom many Americans are receiving food stamps? Isn't it true that the number on them has increased by 50% on his watch? If things are so much better economically, why do MORE people need them now that when your hero took office?

Saved the auto industry? Try taking taxpayer dollars and bailing out their pension funds. He didn't save shite. Romney had it right: let them declare bankruptcy, reorganize, then start anew with decreased debt and a manageable situation. But, no, HE wants to pick and choose which private entities to rescue… which ones can give him the most votes. Really class act you have there, boyo.

A better health care program? Let's see if we have this right… you take a system where 85% of the people already have insurance that works for them and, in order to "help" the other 15%, you throw out almost all policies, and force everyone to accept what the government wants. This, after promising you could keep your doctor, keep your policy, keep your hospital, etc. More baldfaced lies by the Community Organizer but, in your world, things are SO much better now.

Maybe you are just off your meds… I'm trying to be charitable here. Not sure what else could be causing you to be so far removed from reality.
