I have to imagine that Gard and staff are pretty upset about Herro, but I hope they learn some lessons from the 2018 debacle and apply them in the future. The strategy of prioritizing a very small number of kids seems to be way too risky. Kids like Herro can blow up and leave you for a blue blood. Someone like Hauser goes elsewhere for family connections. You ignore Laszewski for a year and then get left out of the recruitment. Based on some of the latest chatter and reports:
DJ Carton - probably going to Iowa - instate school and he loves it there
Nobal Days - lot of chatter suggesting he's going to Marquette (adding Northwestern and Stanford as competition for him)
Zeke Nnaji - sounds like Minnesota offer will be tough to beat
Matthew Hurt - Kansas or other blue blood
Jalen Johnson - will go blue blood
I hope the staff is smart enough to realize this too, and starts building relationships with more kids and in more states. They need to have more options when their top 3-4 kids choose elsewhere.
