Candelino and Janicki to redshirt 2023-24 season

MADISON, Wis. – Sophomore guard Ross Candelino and freshman guard Jack Janicki announced on Thursday their intentions to redshirt the 2023-24 season for the Wisconsin men’s basketball team.
“After talking things over with Coach Gard, my family and God, we have decided that it’s in my best interest to redshirt this season,” Candelino said. “I am looking forward to still giving everything I can to help this team in every way possible and to take this year to develop and grow my game, body and mind. I am excited for this season and can’t wait to see what we accomplish this year!”
Entering his second season as a walk-on with the program, the 6-foot-5 guard from Jacksonville, Florida appeared in five games last year. He recorded his first career minutes and scored his first points as a Badger vs. South Dakota, finishing with four points in the win.
“After talking to the coaching staff and thinking about my future, I’ve decided to redshirt this season,” Janicki said. “I’m excited to challenge my teammates in practice and use this season to continue developing. I look forward to helping this team, not only this year, and my career as a Badger over the coming years.”
Janicki joined Wisconsin this season as a preferred walk-on, passing up multiple high-major scholarship offers. The 6-foot-5 guard was a prolific scorer for White Bear Lake, breaking the school’s scoring record and becoming the first player in program history to score 2,000 career points. As a senior, he averaged 22 points, six rebounds and four assists per game while leading the Bears to a 23-8 record and a fifth-place finish in the program's first state tournament appearance since 2000.
