Why are we so concerned about the 7 yard cushion for the corners?
If you're the DC, would you ask your CBs to play tight man-to-man all game, every game? Or would you mix it up with some man coverage, some man-zone, some press zone and some soft zone?
Shouldn't defenses be based on deception to bait the QB into wrong reads? If we're playing press man all game, wouldn't we be showing our hands and allow the opponent to scheme against the press?
If we're sending multiple guys in a blitz, shouldn't we play softer coverage to guard against the deep pass just in case the blitzers get picked up? If we're playing against really good receivers who are faster than our CBs, shouldn't we adjust to prevent from being beaten deep?
