There are a lot of "what if's" in this statement, but I dont necessarily think Aranda is "for sure" getting a better deal by leaving wisconsin. He is assuring himself quicker money but possibly not more over the long haul.
I heard that Wisconsin had some money put aside to pay him more this upcoming year. He is at 520,000 or so, so lets say he would get bumped up to 700,000- 800,000 at Wisconsin. Again, those are just guesses, but im sure if he negotiated hard he could have bumped up to that salary.
1. Job security. Wisconsin is not going to fire a coach on a whim due to a poor season. I can say with almost certainty that wisconsin would crave stability and keep aranda for at least 10 years. That is 7- 8 million dollars.
2. LSU is only offering 3 years right now. Their head coach job is uncertain. Lets say les miles stays for 3 years, then retires. Whoever they bring in to fill that head coach roll would likely want to bring his staff which "may include" a D-coordinator.
3. LSU ACTUALLY PLAYS GOOD TEAMS! Lets be honest, wisconsin hasnt played anyone! And when we did, (ohio state, Alabama) how did that work out? Aranda could get pounded in the SEC. I feel like Aranda had the perfect storm of having a few good linebackers, and not playing anyone which leads to his puffed up stats. Granted I do like him.
4. IF he gets hammered in the SEC, will anyone else who can pay give him another job????
5. He may have been smart to leave after this season because we have a nightmare schedule this upcoming season however, im guessing this is what he is thinking
My point is, he may get a few million quick, but as far as job security and almost guarenteeing himself 7-8 million dollars, he might be making a mistake.
