I was at the EMU game Friday, 35-15 win over FCS Saint Francis University. thought I would share some thoughts
Offense - Eastern Michigan mixes up tempo pretty well, they will run QB read options, speed option, run power, and chuck it down field with 4 WR sets. The O-line is a solid MAC line, they play two QB's (Preston Hutchinson and former Badger commit Ben Bryant), they ran both of them a bit, but Hutchinson appears to be the better athlete. A couple capable WRs (Hassan Beydoun smaller WR they also use on sweeps and Dylan Drummond to stretch the field), WR Tanner Knue was 2nd on the team in receptions last year, but was injured prior to the game. Running Back Darius Boone Jr. Is a 212lb back that ran 22 times for 107 yards and splits reps with Jawon Hamilton, both ran physically against a smaller FCS school.
Defense - always been soft against the run, SFU as a team ran for over 100 yards, but two guys stood out as playmakers, LB Terry Myrick and DE Turan Rush (both were 2nd team All-MAC last year). Wisconsin will run the ball at will
Special Teams - one of the better FG (Chad Ryland)/Punter (Jake Julien) combos in the country. I think both were preseason All-MAC
EMU is going for its 4th straight Big Ten victory. Coach Chris Creighton in his weekly presser stated that Wisconsin will be the best team he has ever coached against. Thought UW out played PSU, and should of won, if they could get a few plays back. Went on to say EMU took some injuries, but didnt get into details
Wisconsin I believe was a -31.5 pt favorite last week, that line is now -25.5. I expect Wisconsin to win easily here. This is a bad spot for EMU, Wisconsin not only lost, but has been blasted for their performance with the ball. There is a bye that follows so there is no looking ahead and Wisco needs to get things right before ND. I would expect Wisconsin to cover easily. UW should get enough possessions to hopefully work out passing game kinks.
