I wonder if Gard would consider making a change with one of his assistant coaches and hiring someone to be the "OC" and make some changes to the offensive scheme. Gard has had no trouble coaching UW's defense during his tenure, but the offense has put up several years with bad efficiency numbers, and this year the bottom fell out. I think some fresh ideas and approaches could really help. His scheme relies too much on running everything through the post players who are not consistent. It's also hard to always recruit great bigs.
Shaka hired Nevada Smith, a former college and NBA G League coach, to be his OC. He has been credited with making their offense so dynamic. I remember John Beilein had the opposite issue. His offense was always terrific but he struggled to coach defense. He hired Luke Yaklich to be their DC and had some excellent teams.
