QB: Stave played pretty well, he had zero running game and overall, he threw the ball pretty well, I think he played well enough tonight to beat Iowa, Minn and Nebraska.
TB's: obviously CC is injured and Obungowale doesn't have much size, I liked both his and Deals composure and lack of fumbling and mistakes.Obungowale tried to block but he's just too small for that but he tried and Deal does have some pop, they'll be fine against most competition.
WRs: I thought Erickson looked faster and played very well, Wheelwright caught a few and/ or created some penalties , McEvoy showed his inexperience and it was really nice to see Peavy, a personal favorite out there looking like a player, WR may turn out better than I expected.
TEs: thought Traylor caught the ball with confidence, blocked pretty well and overall played a very good game, Fumagli was a non factor, obviously.
OL: Not as bad as some might think. They were not abused as badly as they might have been against a great front 7, the best front seven they'll see all season.Stave got some passes off and the run wasn't going to be there no matter who our Ols were.No this will not go down as UWS best OL ever but I was optimistic based on what I saw. Biegel, Dieter and Williams were getting their first REAL action and it came against NFL quality players.I actually think the game plan was vanilla in the running game and think we'll see more stretch plays and some guards pulling against other teams.
DL: Thought Goldberg played a decent game but think he should probably be at NT because Sheehy as I predicted, though tough and game is too small to hold the point of attack against good OLS who will double team to death, he will wear down and needs another season to get bigger.Obiasih was out there trying but certainly wasn't a factor.think we need one more DT to emerge or need Goldberg in the middle.
Linebackers: the ILBs looked dazed out there to me, unsure in the beginning, especially Edwards but he got more comfy in the second half but is green as grass.Leon wasn't a factors though he did makes some plays, hope his injury isn't nagging, thought they were adequate at best , Schobert is a stud and Biegel tough too they will have some huge days against lesser competition. We should be very good there going forward this season.
DBs: I think you can find my post that suggested Caputo, the way he plays won't stay health at 201 lbs, he needs to be 210, not as fast but his ability is more as a run stuffer and smart player, not as a pass defender type, he won't stay on the field at that weight, it'll be one nick after another. Our little safety competed as they all did and Shelton and Hillary were overall pretty good.
Special teams: very good in coverage, KOs were good, punter is mediocre at best, I think Gags miss is an aberration and he'll have a fine season, pretty impressed with Jamerson, he'll break a few for sure this season, he has breakaway speed.
Coaching: thought Chryst should have gone for it on fourth and six, you were still trying to win at that point but understand he was keeping it close and getting ready for the next game to.He needs to think quicker and call the TO when there is confusion out there due to injury, that penalty was ugly.
Didn't like that when ALA went quick we were waiting for signals again, teams will notice that, the DC needs to correct it.Aranda also needs to stop with the small line on third and five- six , puts the running game in play against us too much, overall, I question the OL coach, those kids hung in there, weren't getting beaten to death but weren't functiong as an OL yet either, will they ever and what Roll does he play in that?
I know we were never really in it but I saw a lot to like out there tonight, I really did.
