Interest picking up for Watt

Talk about it in The Badgers' Den
Despite being committed to Central Michigan, Pewaukee, Wis., defensive end/tight end prospect JJ Watt is keeping his recruiting door slightly open in the case the Wisconsin Badgers find room for him in their 2007 recruiting class.
According to Watt, who updated that he is now 6-foot-6 and between 235 and 240 pounds, the Badgers have upped their interest in him this fall. In fact, Watt was one of several unofficial and official visitors on campus this past weekend to see the Badgers defeat Northwestern, 41-9.
"The Badgers have picked it up a little bit lately," Watt said on Sunday. "I talked to Coach Bielema at breakfast yesterday. I talked to him for about 10-15 minutes before everybody else got there. And he basically said he's trying to find out exactly how many scholarships they have left on the year. Because with a couple guys dropping out and everything - like right now I think they have 15 - and he said once he knows the final number he'll evaluate if I get one or not and he'll look at my film. But he said that he actually sees in me that I'm his type of player, so I'm hoping with some film and maybe some luck I'll see what I can do."
"I play defensive end and tight end," Watt added. "And (Bielema) says that's one of my advantages that they could have me at either position, so that's an upside for me."
Along with some good film and luck, Watt is hoping two of his friends, UW commitments Josh Oglesbyand Nick Toon, can plead in his defense to the coaching staff why he deserves a scholarship. All three athletes spent a lot of time together at Camp Randall Stadium this past Saturday.
"It was a blast," Watt said of his unofficial visit. "I love being around those guys. We always goof around a little bit, so it's fun."
Watt is still 100 percent committed to CMU although this fall, along with UW, schools such as Minnesota, Illinois, Colorado, Nebraska, Northwestern and Northern Illinois have picked up interest, he said, while NIU recently offered.
The recent attention is flattering for Watt, but for now, he's still headed to CMU. Only one school might be able to pull him away from his verbal commitment, and for obvious reasons.
"I'd probably say if I were to de-commit - I mean I love Central and I'm extremely happy with it - but the Badgers are the Badgers and they're my home-state team," Watt said. "They would probably be the only, one team that could compete with it."
