Going back several years there has always been a RB waiting his turn to become the featured back. They always had a stud in front of them for the first couple of years, but we saw enough of them to know they could step right in and be a dominant runner for us. Clay, James white, montee ball, Melvin Gordon, Corey Clement.
Last year was a bit out of the ordinary due to the injury to Clement, but we know he is going to be a very good, if not great runner for us if he stays healthy. We knew ball was going to be great, same with Gordon because they were great for us early in their career and showed us what we could expect. Corey did that behind Melvin 2 years ago.
Do we think that there will be a player this year that will step up as the #2 back and will show us that we will for sure have an excellent player to take Clements role when he graduates?
Can Deal be that guy? Not sure he really showed enough last year.
Shaw?
Obviously this is a hypothetical question but I am not sure we have anyone in the program that is going to be a sure thing to take over the program NEXT YEAR like we have had in the past. And Shaw may be that guy, but will he get any time this year behind Clement, Dare, and Deal?
Im not sold on Deal as a featured back but he will be the only one with legit experience after Clement leaves.
