Size-Strength-Speed
Tall, lean prospect at this stage. Possesses plenty of height and could be projected / developed at few different positions, but regardless of where he lines up he will need to work to add a good deal more bulk to his frame. Displays good strength for current level, but needs to continue to improve and should as he fills out. Displays average first-step quickness.
Versus the Run
Displays ability to come off the ball and bring his hands, but needs to continue to improve strength to help more consistently separate and get off blocks quicker at times. Flashes ability to come off low and maintain adequate pad level, but doesn't consistently explode into blockers and tall player that needs to watch pad level. Can do adequate job fighting to hold ground at current level and while he has good length needs to add size to help him anchor against bigger blockers at college level.
Pass Rush Skills
Good length and flashes some activity with his hands, but area for development. Needs to refine usage of his weapons and add size and strength to help him finish with bull rush. Lacks great initial quickness and closing burst. Has excellent height and can knock down passes when he gets his hands up.
Toughness/Motor
Player that looks to give very good effort and enjoys playing the game.
Bottom Line
Benzschawel is a prospect that plays multiple spots for his high school team and could be projected to multiple spots in college. Listed as a DE, he could land on defense first with ability to be a solid contributor. We wouldn't at all be surprised though if not initially, then eventually that he lands on offense as a blocking TE or if he can add the size as an OT. Regardless of where he plays he is a developmental prospect at this stage and needs to find his fit, fill out and continue to develop before he can be a consistent contributor at FBS level. Prospect that you would take with eye towards down the road.
