McIntosh, Vincent on 2023 College Football Hall of Fame ballot

Current Wisconsin AD, NFL Executive VP of Football Operations among 80 FBS players

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin Director of Athletics Chris McIntosh and National Football League Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent are both on the 2023 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame announced on Monday.

McIntosh, who just completed his first year as UW’s Director of Athletics, was an Outland Trophy finalist for the Badgers in 1999 and started 50 straight games during his college career. A two-time team captain on back-to-back Big Ten and Rose Bowl championship teams, he started every game of Ron Dayne’s record-breaking career and helped pave the way for the running back’s Heisman Trophy season in 1999.

McIntosh was a unanimous first-team All-American as a senior, earning Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year honors. He also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and was a first-round draft choice of the Seattle Seahawks in 2000 and played in Seattle for three seasons. McIntosh was inducted into the UW Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.

“It is truly an honor for me to have my name in the company of so many tremendous players,” McIntosh said. “It’s humbling to see the list and read about the accomplishments of my fellow nominees. My inclusion on this ballot is a testament to the great coaches and teammates I had during my career. Without them and the success we achieved together, this would not be possible.”

This is the seventh straight year Vincent has made the ballot. A 1991 first-team All-American and runner-up for the Thorpe Award, Vincent was a captain on head coach Barry Alvarez’s second team. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and named the 1991 Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Vincent finished his career as the Badgers’ leader in punt return yards (773) and passes defended (31). He was inducted into the UW Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008 and won the NCAA’s Silver Anniversary Award in 2017.

A first-round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in 1992, Vincent played 15 seasons in the NFL and earned five Pro Bowl selections. He was named Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2002 and is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame. Vincent served as the president of the NFLPA during his playing career and began his career in the NFL office in 2010. He moved into his current role as Executive Vice President of Football Operations in 2014. Vincent won the Big Ten’s Ford-Kinnick Leadership Award in 2017.

As a Wisconsin alumnus, it’s an honor to be a nominee for the College Football Hall of Fame,” Vincent said. “This comes with great appreciation and gratitude to be considered among these extraordinary candidates and to be a representative of Badger Nation on the ballot. On, Wisconsin!”

The 2023 College Football Hall of Fame ballot includes 80 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 96 players and 33 coaches from the divisional ranks. To be eligible, a player must have received first-team All-America recognition by a selector that is recognized by the NCAA and utilized to comprise its consensus All-America teams.

Once nominated for consideration, all FBS player candidates are submitted to one of eight District Screening Committees, depending on their school’s geographic location, which conducts a vote to determine who appears on the ballot to represent their respective districts. Vincent and McIntosh were among 11 candidates from District IV who were voted onto the ballot.

The ballot will be voted on by the more than 12,000 NFF members and current Hall of Famers whose votes will be tabulated and submitted to the NFF’s Honors Court, which will deliberate and select the class. The announcement of the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in early 2023, with specific details to be announced in the future.
