The 2016 Wisconsin offensive performance was mediocre. This was partially caused by some exceptionally good defenses LSU, Michigan, OSU, Iowa, Northwestern, even Minnesota. Our still unsettled OL had difficulty open holes for Cory Clements and Obongowale. Michigan in particular punished Hornibrook. Houston provided a spark and the offense ground out just enough to win.
In 2017 I expect a much better offense by 7 to 10 points per game. An experience veteran Oline with traditional size will be more consistent and better. Putting Dieter at tackle give UW a 6-6 330 run blocking mauler at tackle with Dietzen at 6-6 336 creates a formiable size on the left side. Edwards on right side is the least experienced, but most talented, and will be Bryan Buluga like in time. Shaw, James, and Taylor will provide a wave of speed and size. I fully expect a dominate running game circa 2010 or 2011.
Hornibrook was pretty good for a redshirt freshman, 58% completions, 9tds. He's worked hard and no reason to doubt 60-65% completions with 15-20 tds this year. He has a bit of a gun slinger mentality so expect more long td passes but also more interceptions.
Outside skill recruiting has finally paid off, the WR group is fastest most skilled in years. Expect more passes on the perimeter and over the top. TE group is very talented and will likely lead team in receptions.
I think Paul Chryst is giddy with what he has to work with and we'll likely see his most complete and diverse offense since Russell Wilson.
