Whether you love or hate CrossFit, it's a great week for Madison in the national spotlight. I think they're doing a good job creating some events that will really showcase Madison as a great destination for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.
For those of you unaware, the CrossFit Games are the "world championships" of the "sport of fitness". This is the eleventh year of the games; and the first that it's being held outside California. It'll be in Madison (at least) 3 consecutive years.
The CrossFit Games actually begins as "The Open" back in March, where anyone can enter and participate in 6 weekly workouts that test all-around fitness (as CrossFit defines it). The top 20 men and women from each region compete at Regionals, where the top 5 in each region make it to The Games (40 men and 40 women, plus team, teen and masters categories).
Having participated in The Open the past 3 years, I know how big of a gap there is between a guy like me and the people competing this weekend. Quite humbling.
