TEAM NOTES

·Today’s captains: senior OL Michael Deiter, senior ILB T.J. Edwards and junior QB Alex Hornibrook.

·Today’s attendance: 79,736

·Wisconsin improved to 39-9 (.813) overall and 25-5 (.833) in Big Ten play under fourth-year head coach Paul Chryst. Chryst is 4-0 vs. Illinois as the Badgers’ head coach.

·The Badgers improved to 8-1 following a loss under Chryst.

·UW is 50-12 (.806) over the last 5 seasons and trails only Alabama (59-5, .922), Ohio State (55-6, .902) and Clemson (55-7, .887) in wins and winning percentage among FBS teams in that span.

·Wisconsin improved to 24-3 (.889) vs. the Big Ten West Division since the league moved to its current divisional setup in 2014.

·The Badgers have won 16 straight games over their Big Ten West Division rivals, a streak that began on Nov. 28, 2015. UW has won its last 8 home games vs. foes from the West Division.

·Wisconsin has gone 32-6 (.842) in Big Ten games over the last 5 seasons (2014-18). Only Ohio State (35-3, .921 entering Saturday) has a better league record over that span.

·The Badgers have won 9 straight meetings with the Illini, the longest win streak by either team in the history of a series that dates to 1895.

·Wisconsin has outscored Illinois by a margin of 145-46 in the teams’ 4 meetings since Paul Chryst took over as head coach at UW, an average of 24.8 points per game.

·UW scored a season-high 49 points, the team’s highest scoring output in a Big Ten game since a 49-20 win at Purdue in 2016.

·The Badgers forced 5 turnovers, their most since recording 5 takeaways in a 31-21 win over Minnesota on Nov. 28, 2015.

oUW forced all 5 turnovers in the first half, its most in a half since logging 5 takeaways in the first half vs. Northwestern (Nov. 27, 2010).

·Wisconsin matched its season high with 3.0 sacks, equaling the team’s 3.0 sacks last week at Michigan.

·After recording 357 rushing yards vs. Illinois, Wisconsin improved its Big Ten-leading rushing average to 291.1 yards per game.

·The Badgers feature a pair of 100-yard rushers (Jonathan Taylor 159, Taiwan Deal 111) for the first time since Taylor and Chris James did it against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 9, 2017.

·Senior S Evan Bondoc made the first start of his career, becoming the 19th first-time starter for the Badgers this season, a number that includes 4 cornerbacks and 4 safeties.

·Overall, Wisconsin has started 5 different safeties in 7 games: senior D’Cota Dixon
(5 starts), redshirt freshman Scott Nelson (5), sophomore Eric Burrell (2), true freshman Reggie Pearson (1) and Bondoc (1).

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

·Sophomore RB Jonathan Taylor ran for 159 yards on 27 carries. He now has 1,109 yards on the season.

oTaylor became the 9th player in school history to record back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons, and the first since Melvin Gordon in 2013 and 2014. For the 2nd-straight year, Taylor reached the 1,000-yard plateau in the 7th game of the season. He passed the 1,000-yard mark on his 153rd carry of the year.

oTaylor has topped the 100-yard rushing mark in all 7 games this season, and 17 times in 21 career games. He has rushed for 100-plus yards in 8 straight games, dating back to last season.

oTaylor now owns 8 career games of 150-plus yards, including 3 this season.

oTaylor has averaged 179.0 rushing yards in the Badgers’ 5 games at Camp Randall Stadium this season.

oHornibrook became the 7th player in school history to throw for 5,000 yards and now has 5,157 for his career to rank 6th all-time at UW. He needs just 114yards to match Scott Tolzien (5,271) for 5th on UW’s career passing list.

oHornibrook threw for 3 touchdown passes, his second 3-TD game of the season and the 6th of his career. UW is 10-0 when Hornibrook throws multiple TD passes in a game.

oHornibrook’s 45 career TD passes rank 4th all-time at UW.

oHornibrook is 25-5 (.833) as the Badgers’ starting QB, including a 19-3 (.864) mark in Big Ten play.

·Senior RB Taiwan Deal ran for 111 yards on 12 carries with 2 touchdowns. Deal topped the century mark for the second time in his career and the first time since running nfor 147 yards against Hawai’i in 2015. Deal recorded the 5th multi-TD game his career.

·Senior FB Alec Ingold scored his 4th rushing touchdown of the season, and 15th of his career, on a 1-yard run in the first quarter. He added his 1st touchdown reception of the season, and 4th of his career, on a 19-yard catch and run in the third quarter.

oIngold scored a rushing touchdown and a TD reception in the same game for the 3rd time in his career.

oIngold has scored 19 total touchdowns on 104 touches in his career, an average of one touchdown every 5.5 touches.

·Freshman WR Aron Cruickshank scored the first touchdown of his career on a 23-yard run in the first quarter.

·Junior TE Kyle Penniston recorded his 1st touchdown of the season on an 11-yard reception from Hornibrook in the second quarter.

·Redshirt freshman TE Jake Ferguson caught 3 passes for 62 yards, including his 3rd touchdown reception of the season.

·Senior NT Olive Sagapolu recorded the first interception of his career, deflecting an MJ Rivers pass and pulling in the pick in the second quarter.

·Redshirt freshman DE Matt Henningsen notched the first sack of his career.

·Senior ILB T.J. Edwards recorded the 9th interception of his career to match the Badgers’ school record for INT by a linebacker (Craig Raddatz, 1983-86).

·Senior OLB Andrew Van Ginkel tied for team lead with 6 tackles, including his 2nd sack of the season.

·Junior OLB Zack Baun had the first sack of his career.

·Senior S Evan Bondoc recorded a career-high 5 tackles, as well as the first TFLs, forced fumble and interception of his career.
