FOOTBALL POSTGAME NOTES: #4 WISCONSIN 34, WESTERN KENTUCKY 3

·Tonight’s captains: senior OL Michael Deiter, senior S D’Cota Dixon, senior ILB T.J. Edwards and junior QB Alex Hornibrook.

·Tonight’s attendance: 74,145

·Wisconsin won its 40th-consecutive non-conference game at home, the fifth-longest streak by an FBS team in the modern era (since 1946). UW’s last non-conference loss at Camp Randall came on Sept. 13, 2003.

·The Badgers won their home opener for the 23rd consecutive season, dating back to 1996. Only Florida (28 entering Saturday) owns a longer active streak.

·Wisconsin has won 9 of its last 10 night games at Camp Randall, dating back to 2009.

·Friday marked the 7th time UW has opened a season with a prime-time game at Camp Randall. The Badgers are 6-1 in those games.

·The Badgers improved to 2-0 all-time vs. Western Kentucky.

·UW improved to 35-7 (.833) overall under fourth-year head coach Paul Chryst.

·Wisconsin is 46-10 (.821) since the start of the 2014 season, trailing only Alabama (53-5, .914), Ohio State (49-6, .891) and Clemson (50-7, .877) in wins and winning percentage among FBS programs in that span.

·UW totaled 234 yards rushing and 257 yards passing. The Badgers went over 200 yards both on the ground and in a total of 4 games last season.

·The Badgers have held 7 of their last 14 non-conference opponents at Camp Randall Stadium without an offensive touchdown. Those opponents have averaged just 7.4 points in those 14 games.

·Wisconsin limited WKU to just 3 points on 4 trips inside the UW 20-yard line. Dating back to the start of last season, the Badgers have relented just 11 touchdowns on their opponent’s last 39 trips into the red zone (28.2%).

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

·Junior QB Alex Hornibrook finished with 257 yards passing and 2 touchdowns, coming one yard shy of his career-best 258 yards vs. Miami in the 2017 Orange Bowl. Hornibrook recorded his 3rd consecutive 200-yard passing game, and the 8th of his career.

·Sophomore RB Jonathan Taylor totaled 145 yards on 18 carries to go along with 2 touchdowns. Taylor topped the 100-yard mark for the 11th time in his 15-game career. Taylor now ranks No. 2 at UW in career rushing average, at 6.69 yards per carry.

·Taylor became the 17th player in UW history to eclipse 2,000 yards rushing for his career. Taylor reached the 2,000-yard plateau in just 15 career games, the second-fastest in UW history. Ron Dayne went over 2,000 yards rushing in only 13 games in 1996.

·Senior RB Taiwan Deal ran for 53 yards on 8 carries, seeing his first action since the 2016 Cotton Bowl.

·Sophomore RB Garrett Groshek grabbed the first touchdown reception of his career on a 43-yards pass from Alex Hornibrook in the 4th quarter.

·Junior WR A.J. Taylor hauled in 5 catches for 85 yards, marking the second-highest totals of his career in both categories. Taylor had 8 catches for 105 vs. Miami in the 2017 Orange Bowl.

·Sophomore WR Kendric Pryor had a career-high 4 catches, matching his career high with 51 receiving yards and a touchdown.

·Sophomore WR Jack Dunn recorded the first reception of his career, a 20-yard catch, in the 2nd quarter.

·Sophomore WR Adam Krumholz recorded his first-career reception, a 5-yard catch.

·Freshman WR Aron Cruickshank made his UW debut, returning 1 kickoff for 30 yards.

·Redshirt freshman TE Jake Ferguson made the first reception of his career with an 11-yard catch in the 1st quarter. He finished with 43 yards on 4 catches.

·Redshirt freshman S Scott Nelson tied for the team lead with 7 tackles, including 1 TFL and 2 pass breakups.

·Senior ILB Ryan Connelly registered his fourth career sack, with all 4 coming in the last 6 games. Connelly finished with 5 tackles and 1.5 TFLs.

·Redshirt freshman CB Faion Hicks recorded his first career interception when he picked off a Quin Jernighan pass at the Badgers’ 3-yard line in the 3rd quarter.

·Sophomore S Eric Burrell got his first career forced fumble, knocking the ball from Davis Shanley in the fourth quarter.

·Senior K Rafael Gaglianone connected on a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter and 42-yard kick in the third quarter. Gaglianone has converted 28 of his last 31 attempts, dating back to the 2015 Holiday Bowl. Gaglianone is 9-for-9 on attempts of 40-plus yards over the last 3 seasons.

·9 players made the first starts of their careers: FB Alec Ingold, TE Luke Benzschawel, DE Matt Henningsen, DE Kayden Lyles, OLB Andrew Van Ginkel, OLB Zack Baun, CB Caesar Williams, CB Faion Hicks, S Scott Nelson
