TEAM NOTES

·Tonight’s captains: senior OLB Zack Baun, junior C Tyler Biadasz, senior ILB Chris Orr, junior RB Jonathan Taylor

·Wisconsin won its season opener for the fourth consecutive season.

·The Badgers improved to 2-0 all-time vs. South Florida and 2-2 in Raymond James Stadium (three appearances in the Outback Bowl).

·Beginning his fifth season, Paul Chryst improved to 43-12 (.782) as UW’s head coach, including a 16-4 mark in non-conference games.

·The Badgers tallied their fourth shutout under Chryst and the team’s first since blanking Minnesota, 31-0, on Nov. 25, 2017.

·The 49-0 score was UW’s most lopsided road shutout since beating Northwestern, 49-0, on Oct. 1, 1983.

·Wisconsin used a balanced offensive attack, featuring 234 yards rushing and 199 yards passing.

·The Badgers defense limited South Florida to just 157 total yards, UW’s lowest total since holding Minnesota to 133 yards in 2017.

·Wisconsin also held the Bulls to a mere 26 yards, the Badgers lowest defensive total since containing Iowa to 25 yards on Nov. 11, 2017.



INDIVIDUAL NOTES

·Junior RB Jonathan Taylor accounted for 4 total touchdowns, rushed for 135 yards on 16 carries and caught 2 passes for 48 receiving yards.

oTaylor is the first FBS player with at least 2 rushing touchdowns and 2 touchdown receptions in the same game since Colorado’s Laviska Shenault Jr. had 2 rushing and 2 receiving TDs vs. Arizona State on Oct. 6, 2018. Laviska’s was the only such performance in the FBS in 2018.

oThe last Big Ten player to record at least 2 rushing and 2 receiving TDs in the same game was Illinois’ Mikel Leshoure (3 rushing and 2 receiving) vs. Michigan on Nov. 6, 2010.

oTaylor recorded the first touchdown reception of his career on a 36-yard catch and run in the second quarter and added a 12-yard TD reception on the Badgers’ final play of the period.

oTaylor had 60 receiving yards in total for the 2018 season. He recorded 48 in the first half of Friday’s game alone.

oTaylor topped the 100-yard rushing mark for the 23rd time in his career. Only Ron Dayne (33), Montee Ball (26) and Anthony Davis (24) have more 100-yard games as Badgers.

oTaylor scored the 30th rushing touchdown of his career on a 37-yard run in the first quarter and added his 31st on a 38-yard TD run in the third quarter.

oTaylor is the first Badger to score 4 touchdowns in a game since Melvin Gordon had 4 (and a then-FBS record 408 rushing yards) vs Nebraska on Nov. 15, 2014).

·Junior QB Jack Coan threw for a career-high 193 yards on 17-for-23 passing, with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions.

·The Badgers have won each of Coan’s last 3 starts, dating back to last season. He is now 3-2 as UW’s starting quarterback.

·Coan completed 11 consecutive passes between the late first quarter and late third quarter.

·Junior WR Quintez Cephus saw his first game action since the Badgers’ game at Indiana on Nov. 4, 2017. Cephus recorded 3 catches for 39 yards.

·Redshirt freshman RB Nakia Watson made his Badgers debut and scored the first touchdown of his career on a 27-yard run in the third quarter. He finished with 14 carries for 80 yards.

·Senior RB Bradrick Shaw scored the 10th rushing touchdown of his career and his first touchdown since 2017, scoring on a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter. He had 2 total rushes for 15 yards.

·Sophomore FB John Chenal recorded the first reception of his career with a 12-yard catch in the first quarter

·Sophomore DE Matt Henningsen recorded the first touchdown of his career on a 16-yard fumble return touchdown in the second quarter — UW’s first defensive TD since Andrew Van Ginkel recorded a 9-yard interception return TD in the 2017 Big Ten Football Championship Game.

*Henningsen recorded the second sack of his career in the second quarter.

*Henningsen also recovered a fumble and recorded a quarterback hurry.

·Junior S Eric Burrell recorded the second interception of his career, picking off a Blake Barnett pass in the second quarter.

·Junior ILB Mike Maskalunas led the Badgers with a career-high 6 tackles.

·Sophomore ILB Jack Sanborn tallied a career-high 5 tackles.

·True freshmen Leo Chenal (ILB) posted 5 tackles in his first collegiate game.

·Redshirt freshman OLB Jaylan Franklin recorded the first sack of his career in his collegiate debut.

·Junior S Collin Wilder made his Badgers debut and tallied an interception in the fourth quarter.

·Freshmen Keeanu Benton (NT), CB Semar Melvin and QB Chase Wolf made their Badgers debuts.

·Senior K Zach Hintze delivered touchbacks on all 8 of his kickoffs.
