I have no idea what the DC for Purdue was doing. I guess it looked like some sort of prevent defense and our passing game really benefited from it. Time and again there were multiple guys open on their routes allowing Stave to pick and choose guys. We could have thrown 10 bubble screens the the game and gained good yardage on most of them.
You can make an argument that Purdue sold out to stop the run but from my vantage point, they didn't. They played 7 in the box most of the game and we just couldn't take advantage of it. Starting 3 freshmen on the OL and changing lineups all season has really hamstrung the timing and productivity of the ground game.
