A four-star in the Class of 2014, James committed to Pittsburgh over schools like Tennessee and Wisconsin. Once he arrived at Pitt he had an immediate impact, rushing for 437 yards while playing backup to James Conner. After another year behind Conner in 2015, James elected to transfer and settled on the Badgers, a school he strongly considered as a recruit. James sat out the 2016 season due to transfer rules but now has two years of eligibility heading into 2017 and is expected to finally get his chance to shine as a feature back with the Badgers.
