Some of these have been included in previous threads but I'll summarize them anyway.
1. I would have replaced Horni at half time if I was Chryst. I see it as similar to baseball where the starting pitcher just doesn't have good stuff or has control problems that day. You go to the bullpen early. Doesn't mean that you relegate the starter the next time, but you take him out if he's clearly struggling. He was clearly hurting the team yesterday.
2. More on Horni. The fumbled snap on 2nd and short hurt. The screen pass was way off target despite the short distance. Downfield passes were high. And of course, the INT for TD where the TE was wide open but he threw it late.
3. I didn't like the playcalling. It was run run run and then throw throw throw when we were desperate. There were some good plays in there...I liked the OL blocking schemes allowing JT to squeeze through the LOS consistently. End arounds were mostly effective.
But the 4th and 3 punt was the PLAY OF THE GAME. Young defense with back ups, we move the ball to their side of the field with the game hanging in balance and we've been able to run the ball a bit. And we punted??? Ugh.
4. The DL and LBs overran plays a lot. They've lost GAP CONTROL multiple times allowing easy yardage for Michigan on the ground. DL crashed to the right or left too aggressively and opened up big cutback lanes for Higdon. Van Ginkel, Baun and Tyler Johnson were all overaggressive in going after the RB on the read options and lost contain. The 81 yard run was due to Baun totally losing the QB. The RB was not his assignment! Harrell was also pulled in too deep and failed as the safety net in the secondary. Again and again, the OLBs overpursued and were burned. Some of the long runs were caused by defenders taking poor angles on the chase and got outran or weren't in position to make a proper tackle. Just way, way too aggressive.
5. The young CBs were completely engulfed in run defense. They played okay in pass defense. 124 yard allowed to Patterson was not a whole lot. Defense forced two fumbles but couldn't recover. Sometimes that's just luck. Best player on D was Connelly. Played his heart out.
6. The roughing the snapper penalty was BS.
