Friday night was the second time I was able to David Joplin this winter. Right now, he is considered the No. 3 in-state prospect in the 2021 class behind Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Michael Foster, who are viewed as elite recruits.
Joplin likely projects as a power forward, though he does show the ability to hit outside shots and handle the ball a bit on the perimeter. Right now he's listed at 6-foot-5, so the biggest question could be if he can get into that 6-foot-7 or 6-foot-8 range by the time he gets to college. Physically, he's very mature for a freshman and he could be a true power post player in two or three years.
Long way to go but Joplin is definitely someone I could see Wisconsin offering if he continues to improve. Right now he has a scholarship from UNLV and it will be interesting to see if any more come this spring and summer. I believe Joplin will be playing for Ray Allen Select on the AAU circuit.
