So, we have an excellent Football and Bball program... Since Barry came and Dick bennett/ Bo coached here, we have had competitive teams Always have good seasons, can beat teams with better talent... our keys to success are a good scheme, and an ability to develop players...
The next step after that is keeping the scheme, develop players, and get Better talent... we have taken those steps and it is clear.
Look at the final 4 teams for UW recently... obviously its not coincidence that we had 2 NBA draft picks on the team... Got kind of lucky with Kaminski, he wasnt great early on... but that is the type of talent you need to take the next step.... you go from having good seasons to a chance to win it all..
Just look at the football team.... in the past we would get some linemen into the NFL, a player here and there at other positions... compare that to this years team! I made post before about the number of NFL guys that this badger team has on its defense alone, its remarkable... a lot of that is developing players, but also continuing to recruit better talent.... obviously its not coincidence that this season we have an elite team and are undefeated for the first time in school history at this point of the season AND we have a ton of pro talent....
I think the next step in the progression of UW sports is to consistently get better and better talent... keep the walk on program, keep coaches that develop, dont chance the scheme, but we need to not miss on big time players, especially in the state.
It seem like football is doing better at this than Bball... even after 2 final 4 years in a row, we cant land the best talent within our own state... Im not saying that to complain because I love our coach and our system... and I think we will continue to slowly get those guys to come here...
Just think about how close we are to being national title contenders year in and year out?
If we continue to recruit and develop in football like we have, keep getting good receivers like we have this year and add a 4-5 star type QB, we would consistently be as good as Ohio state... we dont need as many 4-5 star guys nor do I really want as many as they get.. I like our system, just need a few more big time guys in skill positions to put us over the top...
Basketball needs a little more work, we have good players, getting better players, I love our team and talent, but we have missed on in state guys that could have led to a national championship.
If we had looney, diamond stone, ellenson all at the same time along with bronson at point? who would have beat us...
my point is I am so excited about UW in football and bball, we are almost there... almost year in and year out national contenders... good times to be a badger
what do you guys think
