I have been wondering if chryst is holding back on his play calling to "save it" for bigger games... seems like we run up the middle on first and second down and then throw on third time after time.. a couple attempted end arounds, but not much this season
I watched the cotton bowl again with this link which plays the game in 30 minutes... i love this style of film where its just one play after another.
watch our 2nd drive in particular. We throw a little pass out in the flats to Dare, really good play for good yardage... end around to cephus... pass to clement out of back field... more running to the edges than up the middle.... that was a really really good drive which resulted in a TD.... makes me think that when we need it, chryst can call some great plays... I especially like the passes to RBs out of the backfield, was open almost every time they called it...
then he kind of goes back to run up the gut twice in a row and we stall....
bottom line, as I watch us this year and as I watch that game from last season , we need to open up the play book... passes to the running backs work really well... peavy was really good at the sweep play, but cephus would be fine im sure.... then when needed hit fumagali..
this season we should be better than we were last year on offense.. better receivers, equal at QB, about the same at running back or a bit better because of taylor, still have fumagali...
what do you guys think is the reason for the low offensive production?
I honestly think it is the consistent runs directly up the middle that hurt us, get the backs moving to the side a bit so they can hit a hole or else bounce it outside if need me...
