Im not going to blame officiating for the loss last night. But it was very apparent to me since the loss last year to Kentucky thru last nights game that there is no consistency or definition in what constitutes a charge or block, or an offensive foul. You must be rewarded defensively for position or the game losses balance. How can an offensive player initiate a legal offensive move against a set defensive position by initiating contact by lowering and delivering a blow with a shoulder. Time and time again.
I use Badgers as a model because I have no way of knowing how many other teams seem to stress defensive positioning, chest forward, discipline to not reach or slap, etc as well as the Badgers. Year after year among the leaders in fewest fouls committed, this year consistently play to that form, yet in 2 of the last 3 games have their defense judged totally out of their established norm. Was thankful the Kentucky and Duke games were both called loosely in first half yet 2nd halves go totally different, both ways. With so much on line and the criticism that follows for Coaches, but really the young players, its a shame.
