Most seem to agree UW will never recruit top 5 or even top 10 classes, and will never be at the level of Bama/Georgia/Ohio State.

Fans seem to want consistent success at the level of one tier below that. That would be consistently winning the Big Ten and perhaps losing in the playoff or finishing top 2-3 in the conference and winning Rose Bowls and NY6 bowls.

But that made me think, what program out there has actually accomplished that level of consistent success, especially with the geography, lack of long tradition or huge financial resources, and academics. Are there programs at that level that you can say UW school be equal to?

Notre Dame: I saw they lost 10 straight NY6 Bowls or something. And they might be the closest and obviously have a different level of tradition and resources.

Michigan: They have not been great until it all came together this season and then they got blasted in the playoff anyways.

Oregon: they have had stretches of that level of sustained success without long tradition, but of course they have Phil Knight money making them unique.

Oklahoma: they are definitely in that next tier of sustained success, but different level of talent available in their region and tradition too.

Utah: they remind me of Bucky in a lot of ways. They finally make the Rose and still lose to a OSU team missing 25 guys.

Penn State: they haven’t really been at that level with consistency.

I can’t really think of any programs that are consistently at that “next level” where you would say UW should be them. Thoughts?
