MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin football fans have gotten used to seeing the Badgers open the season with a high-profile matchup. In 2020 and 2021, UW’s first games will definitely fit that bill as – for the first time since 1982 – Wisconsin will face a Big Ten foe in its opener.

The Big Ten Conference announced its league slate for the 2020 and 2021 seasons on Tuesday.

In 2020, the Badgers will kick off the season on Sept. 5 at Camp Randall Stadium vs. Indiana. The following year, Penn State will travel to Madison on Sept. 4 for the teams’ first game.

The last time Wisconsin faced a Big Ten opponent to open a season was a 1982 loss to Michigan in Ann Arbor. The prior year was the last time Camp Randall Stadium hosted a season-opening Big Ten matchup, with UW upsetting preseason No. 1 Michigan, 21-14.

The rest of UW’s 2020 Big Ten schedule consists of home games against Minnesota (Oct. 10), Illinois (Oct. 31) and Nebraska (Nov. 21). The Badgers head to the road to face Michigan (Sept. 26), Maryland (Oct. 24), Northwestern (Nov. 7), Purdue (Nov. 14) and Iowa (Nov. 28) that year.
