Wisconsin trio named consensus All-America
MADISON, Wis. – For the first time, the Wisconsin football program has three consensus first-team All-Americans in the same season, capping a decade in which the Badgers produced 11 consensus All-America selections.
Junior center Tyler Biadasz and junior running back Jonathan Taylor were unanimous first-team selections of the five organizations used to determine consensus status – the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Senior Zack Baun tied for a consensus spot at linebacker as a first-team selection by the FWAA and Walter Camp. He also was a second-team selection by the AFCA, AP and Sporting News.
The trio give Wisconsin a total of 32 consensus All-Americans all-time.
This marks the second time in school history that Wisconsin has produced a pair of unanimous first-team All-Americans in the same season. Tackle Chris McIntosh and running back Ron Dayne both earned unanimous status in 1999.
Taylor is the first player in school history to be named a unanimous first-team All-American twice. He’s just the second player to ever repeat as a consensus first-team All-American, joining fellow running back Montee Ball (2011-12).
Taylor repeated as the Doak Walker Award winner as the nation’s top running back this season. Wisconsin players have claimed five Doak Walker titles, the most of any program. Biadasz became the Badgers’ first winner of the Rimington Trophy as the nation’s top center.
Including this year’s trio, the Badgers earned a total of 11 consensus All-America accolades in the decade of the 2010s. Only Alabama, Florida State and LSU produced more consensus selections over the last 10 years:
Consensus All-America, 2010-19
27 Alabama
13 Florida State
13 LSU
11 Wisconsin
11 Clemson
10 Texas A&M
10 Oklahoma
10 Ohio State
