We just experienced by far the most exciting off-season month in Badger football history. We made the biggest splash hire at head coach in the program’s history followed by another huge i
Hire at OC. We brought in more QB talent (maybe not the best single QB, but QB depth is undeniable) than ever before. We shoes up the O-Line, and brought in a ton of WR talent.

But have we made any strides on defense? We brought in two talented players, but lose Jim Leonard, a starting safety, and arguably our 2 best defensive players. Granted, CB looks improved. But will we be able to get enough pressure on the QB? Will we be able to stop a power run team?

The good news is that with our schedule next year, we should legitimately be favored in 11 of the 12 games. But how do we stack up against OSU? That is basically why we wanted Chryst gone in the first place, he could not compete against the elite schools.

The good thing is that this is year 1 under Fickell. We haven’t even seen what this staff can do in a full recruiting cycle yet but with the teams we play next year, 11-1 probably won’t get us into the playoffs unless we win the 12th because as of right now, we don’t really play anyone of note. Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Purdue are all teams that could be considered good wins, but as of right now, none would be marquee wins. So if we can’t beat OSU, and we can’t beat whomever we should play in the Big 10 Championship (anything but a trip to the big 10 championship next year would be a monumental letdown) then we haven’t really gotten anywhere just yet. I guess if we only lose to OSU by 14, we have improved significantly, but in the end, we do want more than just to make the WI/OSU competitive.
