More on Nathan Stanley

Earlier this week, BadgerBlitz.com highlighted Wisconsin’s continued interest in in-state quarterback Nathan Stanley. And while his name hasn’t been tossed around much this fall and winter in connection to UW, the three-star prospect from Menomonie High School has been a priority for head coach Paul Chryst since he took over in Madison.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound senior, according to his head coach, Joe LaBuda, received a visit from the Badgers’ staff this week during the live contact period. Chryst will continue to try and get Stanley on campus for an official visit up until Signing Day.

“They (UW) are recruiting him very hard,” LaBuda told rivals.com. “Give Iowa's coaches credit because they sewed him up when Wisconsin had a coach who, in my opinion, did not do a good job recruiting the state. He wanted to bring in some other guys."

Stanley has been committed to the Hawkeyes for well over year and, according to those close to his recruitment, it will likely stay that way despite Wisconsin’s efforts. The three-star prospect, who is also a standout basketball and baseball player, has family connections to Iowa and wants to stay true to his original commitment. He’s also built a very strong relationship with Iowa’s coaching staff and this year’s Rose Bowl run was intriguing, according to a source.

The Badgers, who have a pledge from Stanley’s high school teammate, 2016 linebacker Mason Stokke, are extremely thin at quarterback heading into spring camp. Bart Houston, Alex Hornibrook and early enrollee Kare’ Lyles are the only players at the position on the current roster.

New running back to watch

Add another 2016 running back to Wisconsin’s recruiting board.

BadgerBlitz.com has been told that three-star Joshua Jacobs just recently has been in contact with the coaching staff. The senior from Oklahoma rushed for over 2,700 and 36 touchdowns this past fall.

“He (Jacobs) hasn't (taken officials) yet,” a source said. “Hopefully they (Wisconsin) get by his school to see him this week. But he is definitely interested.”

Missouri State, New Mexico State, Northern Iowa and Wyoming have offered thus far. “He (Jacobs) absolutely is (legit), I’m a huge fan," a source said. "I’ve got him as the No. 6 prospect in Oklahoma.”

Jacobs joins a running back list that also includes Sam Brodner, Connell Young, Khalil Herbert, Kameron Pickett and Robert Washington, among others. And then there’s Brandon Stephens, who has still yet to be accepted into Stanford. Should that not go through, according to a source, Wisconsin could secure an official visit during one of the two final weekends before Signing Day.

Hanging tight

Three-star offensive lineman Patrick Kasl, who committed to Wisconsin this summer, received recent offers from Vanderbilt and Minnesota. Three-star wide receiver Quintez Cephus, who pledged to the Badgers this fall, has also seen heavy interest from Vanderbilt, as well as Miami and Georgia, another others.

Both, however, are solid in their commitments to Wisconsin, according to multiple sources.

“He’s all Wisconsin,” a source said when asked about Cephus, who was committed to Furman to play basketball before the Badgers offered.

Kasl, who earned his offer at camp, was contemplating a late visit to Minnesota, but he confirmed with BadgerBlitz.com that he won’t make that trip.

The commit we continue to keep tabs on is Garrett Rand, who is hearing from a number of top schools across the country. The Badgers are in a good position to keep the four-star defensive tackle, but the new defensive coordinator will be big in his recruitment. At this point, all signs point to Tim Tibesar, though that has not been made official yet.

Williams thinking things over

As his official visit to Wisconsin started this weekend, 2016 cornerback Caesar Williams received a late offer from Kansas State. As it turns out, that could be the final school the two-star prospect visits before making his decision.

We’re told that Williams is contemplating an official to Kansas State this upcoming weekend. If that doesn’t happen, it’s because the two-star prospect will have had committed to the Badgers at some point this week. The coaching staff is confident they can close out his recruitment in the near future after a very positive official.

Williams was hosted by George Rushing and was able to watch Wisconsin’s upset win over Michigan State. We’re told he’s intrigued at the opportunity to contribute early in his career at UW.

The Badgers have commitments from projected corners Ke’Shan Pennamon and Dontye Carriere-Williams in the current class. Senior athlete Deron Harrell, who projects to corner, is also expected to accept Wisconsin’s greyshirt offer in the near future.

Junior Day next weekend

Wisconsin will host it’s first junior day next week with in-state prospects from the 2017 class. The Badgers are expected to get a handful of athletes on campus, a list that includes Jonathan Gruetzmacher, Aaron Vopal, Mike Witkowski, Javaree Jackson, Logan Bruss, Alex Fenton, Danny Vanden Boom and Jake Ferguson, among others.

But the player to keep an eye on is definitely Tyler Beach, who picked up recent scholarships from Michigan, Oregon State and Syracuse. We’re told the Badgers are waiting until this weekend to offer the 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive lineman from Port Washington in person.

Should that offer come as expected, the Badgers will likely emerge as Beach’s leader, though the Wolverines have caught his attention. An early decision is not expected, though it’s not out of the question for Beach, who grew up in Ohio and Colorado before moving to Wisconsin in 6th grade.

Vopal, a two-way lineman, would also be someone to watch for a possible offer. Iowa State recently extended a scholarship to the De Pere standout.

Odds and end

*Wisconsin assistant coach Lamont Paris was in La Crosse this weekend to watch 2017 commit Kobe King, as well as targets Joey Hauser, Jordan McCabe, Theo John, Brad Davison and McKinley Wright.

*Three-star athlete Malik Harrison is expected to take officials to Michigan State and Syracuse before making his final decision on Signing Day.

"I'm still going to take those visits," Harrison stated, referring to upcoming trips to Michigan State and Syracuse. "I'm still going to announce on Signing Day."

Harrison added that "everyone is equal" in terms of his finalists which includes Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Syracuse.

*Recently-offered in-state sophomore guard Tyler Herro was in Madison Sunday for the Badgers' win over the Spartans.
