I’ve been a big believer in Mertz needing to be the guy last year and said if we want to go to that next level. Meaning national championship contender we needed a guy with what I thought Mertz could bring.
Humbly I will need to admit that Mertz may have some psychical tools that made me think he’s got a what it takes to get us to the next level, but there’s way more at play like mind set, decision making, leadership.
I think Coan was a better decision maker, better leader and was able to overcome obstacles unlike Mertz has shown. He was not the guy to get us to that next level but possessed better attributes with the Above.
that being said, I’m not sure if Mertz will ever get there. I think it’s a mix of Mertz and our coaching staff not coaching him up and putting him in a position to be great.
this season is lost imo. I wanted to compete for a title or a rose bowl.
it will be interesting how he progresses throughout the year…
