Gard solidifies coaching staff for 2016-17 season
Paris named associate head coach, Moore and Vosters retained

April 12, 2016

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin head basketball coach Greg Gard has solidified his coaching staff ahead of the 2016-17 season by promoting Lamont Paris to associate head coach as well as retaining assistant coach Howard Moore and director of operations Kat Vosters.

Paris, Moore and Vosters will join assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft, who was hired on April 4, on the Badgers’ staff.

“I’m very excited to be able to keep Lamont, Howard and Kat on staff,” Gard said. “Having continuity within our program is important and each of these three individuals brings a valuable skill set and the character that makes Wisconsin basketball so successful. I am also very pleased to elevate Lamont to associate head coach. He is richly deserving of the title change and added responsibilities. From on-court coaching, recruiting and player development, to camps, he will have a major role in everything we do.

“Howard made invaluable contributions since joining our staff in the middle of the season and I’m thrilled that he will be with us for the long term. He had an immediate impact on our current players and is vital to keeping our strong connection to past UW players and coaches.

“Retaining Kat was also essential to what we want to accomplish. She has been a tremendous asset in my transition and her professionalism and expertise with our program helps keep everything running smoothly.”

Paris just completed his sixth season as a member of the UW coaching staff in 2015-16. During his time in Madison, the Badgers have averaged 27 wins per season and advanced to the NCAA tournament all six years. That stretch includes three Sweet 16s, back-to-back Final Fours and UW’s first national championship game appearance since 1941. With Paris on the bench, UW shattered the school’s single-season wins record with 36 in 2015.

Moore rejoined UW’s staff in December when Gard took over as interim head coach. The former University of Illinois-Chicago head coach (2010-2015) and former Wisconsin assistant (2005-10) is a 16-year collegiate coaching veteran. Moore was instrumental in the Badgers’ remarkable turnaround this season. After beginning 9-9 overall and 1-4 in Big Ten play, Moore helped spark a remarkable rally that saw UW not only secure its 18th-consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament, but also advance to the Sweet 16. A graduate and former player at Wisconsin, Moore played in 47 games for the Badgers from 1990-95.

Vosters will enter her third season as the director of basketball operations for men’s basketball in 2016-17, her eighth with the program overall. A 2013 graduate of Wisconsin, Vosters also spent one year as a program assistant and four seasons as a team manager for the Badgers.
