I would argue that a great guard as opposed to say a very good one, which we'll easily have, might mean the difference between winning or losing one game , maybe over a four year period.
I would further argue that the loss of Gordon's HS teammate, a 4.3 CB who was a good player , a shutdown for four seasons, might have been worth 3-4 wins for us over that period.JMHO.
Games like OSU a few seasons back, Northwestern, ASU, PSU all could gave been impacted by a 4.3 big play CB.
