FOOTBALL Update on the upcoming weekend; odds and ends

Few small updates some calls today...

Wisconsin is hoping/expected to have a big recruiting weekend coming up. But as of right now, there are just two confirmed guests:

Henry has a strong connection to Amare Snowden, and things look promising for the Badgers. Wisconsin obviously has a need at wide out and Henry checks a lot of boxes. Not a done deal, though. Pfeiffer is a plug and play for Peter Bowden. Not sure if he's a scholarship guy or not yet.

Two more guys to watch:

Wisconsin is quickly trending for Finn. There's an invite for him this weekend, and the expectation is that the visit is, at a minimum, realistic. I think if Wisconsin does get him on campus, the staff could lock him up. He was the 2023 MAC Player of the Year.

Pius is expected to be on campus but that is not 100 percent confirmed yet, according to the source I spoke with.

Something to reiterate... Almost all of the high-end kids who enter the portal either have their destination completely locked in, or they have two or three firm offers from schools that will for sure visit. If you're entering the portal without either of those... well, you likely made a bad choice.

As far as who else Wisconsin could get on campus, the source said "they'll (UW) know when they get on the plane." It's just such a fluid situation with these players, meaning a traditional guest list isn't realistic this early in the week.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me why Gilmore gets meaningful minutes?

He's horrible both offensively and defensively. Teams don't even guard him on offense, and defensively he looks like a statue at times. Illver might not be a elite defender (not even close) but he can actually pose a threat offensively. It's actually comical watching Gilmore on offense. When he gets the ball, he looks around to where he can pass it, not looking to see he has a lane to drive, or a shot. We're a good team but we're not good enough to play 4 on 5 basketball!

Saw him at Wisconsin's advanced camp. Big, athletic kid who can move. He's got a chance.

Who will be our Starting QB next year?

Will we get a Transfer QB? Are we settling with Locke (not sure abut his mobility)? Will Nick Evers emerge? Does Burkett have all of the tools to compete with Locke and Evers? Cole LaCrue going to stick around? How bad is Mabrey's injury?

Personally I want someone who can run and pass, we have to have someone who can extend plays and make defenses pay for selling out going after the RB with run blitzes etc. I like Mordecai's athletic ability and would be happy of a QB with similar attributes. In today's game he was a huge difference maker ( I loved the Braelon Allen lead Block plays both the run and pass that it set up, but you need a mobile QB to do those type of things).

As of right now I don't know anything about Nick Evers but am pushing for him to be our Starter assuming he can read defenses and pass. The fact Locke played before he did when Tanner went down has to mean something either is lacking or not there yet, hoping for the later.
