Greg Gard

Greg Gard has to be somewhat concerned about his future. The talent on roster and recruiting for basketball are lackluster and have been since he has gotten the job. With what’s happening in football with Fickell and CM going outside the program to change the narrative of who Wisconsin is, you have to see changes coming in Basketball too. Either this staff will need do more with NIL to get these recruits or they will get a coach who knows how to embrace the same vision CM has for the program overall.

Cheerios + Pee

We just experienced by far the most exciting off-season month in Badger football history. We made the biggest splash hire at head coach in the program’s history followed by another huge i
Hire at OC. We brought in more QB talent (maybe not the best single QB, but QB depth is undeniable) than ever before. We shoes up the O-Line, and brought in a ton of WR talent.

But have we made any strides on defense? We brought in two talented players, but lose Jim Leonard, a starting safety, and arguably our 2 best defensive players. Granted, CB looks improved. But will we be able to get enough pressure on the QB? Will we be able to stop a power run team?

The good news is that with our schedule next year, we should legitimately be favored in 11 of the 12 games. But how do we stack up against OSU? That is basically why we wanted Chryst gone in the first place, he could not compete against the elite schools.

The good thing is that this is year 1 under Fickell. We haven’t even seen what this staff can do in a full recruiting cycle yet but with the teams we play next year, 11-1 probably won’t get us into the playoffs unless we win the 12th because as of right now, we don’t really play anyone of note. Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Purdue are all teams that could be considered good wins, but as of right now, none would be marquee wins. So if we can’t beat OSU, and we can’t beat whomever we should play in the Big 10 Championship (anything but a trip to the big 10 championship next year would be a monumental letdown) then we haven’t really gotten anywhere just yet. I guess if we only lose to OSU by 14, we have improved significantly, but in the end, we do want more than just to make the WI/OSU competitive.

Wisconsin launches dedicated NIL marketplace for student-athletes

MADISON, Wis. — Strengthening its program to support student-athletes in capitalizing on their name, image and likeness opportunities, Wisconsin Athletics announced Thursday the launch of a dedicated NIL marketplace built to specifically serve the Badgers.

YouDub Marketplace serves as Wisconsin’s official NIL marketplace and stands as one of the first school-specific offerings in the nation. Powered by industry leader Opendorse, YouDub Marketplace gives Badgers fans, supporters and interested businesses a single, streamlined platform to access hundreds of student-athlete profiles and pitch those they are interested in pursuing for NIL opportunities. They can then use the same platform to securely book deals and provide payment to student-athletes.

Current student-athletes can be found and contacted using YouDub Marketplace, along with former UW student-athletes who are among the 75,000 athletes worldwide using the Opendorse platform.

“This is an exciting step in our evolving efforts to provide the highest level of support to our student-athletes when it comes to their NIL opportunities,” UW Director of Athletics Chris McIntosh said. “We are fortunate to have a large and passionate fan base that not only supports the efforts of our program and our teams collectively, but specifically takes pride in supporting our student-athletes individually as Badgers. This new marketplace makes it easy for our fans and our business community to channel that support directly to the student-athletes. Most importantly, it gives our student-athletes another powerful tool as they continue to elevate themselves in the NIL space.”

YouDub Marketplace simplifies for student-athletes the process of promoting themselves, finding NIL opportunities and executing potential deals. Student-athletes can review opportunities, accept deals and receive compensation all in one place. Once a deal is completed, the same platform is used to disclose the activity automatically to ensure compliance.

"Wisconsin has built an award-winning NIL program that stands among the nation's best," said Opendorse CEO Blake Lawrence. "Today's launch of the YouDub Marketplace will take that student-athlete support to the next level. Starting now, Wisconsin fans can find and support every Badger using the top NIL technology in college sports."

In addition to the new marketplace, UW student-athletes continue to benefit from all aspects of the Badgers’ partnership with Opendorse and its best-in-class tool for content delivery, personalized social media assessments and analytics, and access to industry leaders on topics like endorsements and brand-building.

YouDub Marketplace is the latest addition to Wisconsin’s continually-evolving NIL program, YouDub:

• Earlier this month, the Badgers added a partnership with the leading NIL advisory and education firm, Altius Sports Partners, to provide strategic guidance and a robust offering of educational programming to UW student-athletes, staff and stakeholders.

• Student-athletes also have access to free legal advice and contract review via the UW Law & Entrepreneurship Clinic and to cost-free business coaching and business plan development through the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center.

• Within Wisconsin Athletics, student-athletes have access to in-house resources that include the Badgers’ Brand Engagement staff as a resource to help develop social media, personal branding and communication skills, as well as staff from the Career and Leadership team, which provides networking opportunities and personal and career development programming.

The "Five Commits Deion Sanders may regret...." column

"About a week following his decommitment from Colorado, Ashcraft committed to Wisconsin which should have been a major red flag for the Buffaloes. The Badgers have done a phenomenal job over the years developing and producing tight ends and first-year coach Luke Fickell took his commitment.

Maintaining relationships in the Pacific Northwest could be crucial to a Pac-12 program especially since Seattle (Wash.) O’Dea pumps out quality players every year and Colorado could be a welcome destination."

Not sure if this writer realizes, that O'Dea is 5 miles from the University of Washington campus. Hard to pull some of those guys away from basically a feeder program...

Former UW Players as Coaches Updates

Think this would be an interesting thread to keep updated:

Donovan Raiola ('06) has been hired as an assistant offensive line coach for the Chicago Bears

Josh Ogelsby ('11) is the new offensive quality control coach at UTEP

Jay Valai ('10) is the defensive quality control coach for the Kansas City Chiefs

Not a former player or likely to get a free beer in Madison anytime soon, but former Wisco OL Coach TJ Woods is now OL Coach at WKU

OT: Spring Training Trip

Might be heading to AZ in March for a short trip (Friday-Tuesday-ish) to take in some spring training games with my wife, in-laws, and brother-in-law family. My wife is checking out AirBnB/Vrbo for a place for all of us. She's found some spots in Phoenix and Mesa. Plan is to take in a game at the Brewers facility, as well as a Brewer road game in Mesa.

Anyone who has done this before...any insight? Is there big upside/downside to staying in a certain city or place? Plan is to check out two games in the 3-4 days we'll be there, so recommendations on something to check out on our "off day"? Any and all intel would be appreciated.

Thanks, DEN!
