OK, so I caved!

I signed up for Peacock for 60 bucks a year. I know that some bb games will be televised on peacock so I caved. If any of you want to stream the games for free, I can provide the link. I'm not sure on the rules on this site, so I won't post it here. Just let me know and I'll provide it. The Rutgers game will be streamed on it

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Week 2 In-State Blitz: 2025 Verona CB/WR Tre Poteat

STRENGTHS

During my time at Rivals.com, this was my first opportunity to do a live evaluation of a projected cornerback from inside the state. The closest I came prior to Friday night was Trae Waynes, but my primary focus on those outings was on Melvin Gordon and Vonte Jackson, his teammates at Kenosha Bradford.

My lasting impression from watching Tre Poteat against Kenosha Indian Trail on Friday evening was his ability to impact the game as a cornerback, wide receiver and returner on special teams. He’s truly one of the more unique players in the state in that capacity. Poteat is also an excellent athlete who excels in basketball at Verona High School.

On defense, Poteat - as expected - didn’t have the ball thrown his way a ton. He didn’t have any pass deflections but did finish the evening with a handful of tackles. He needs to get stronger in this area and improve his pad level when attacking the ball carrier. Poteat also likes to play on an island and is good enough to lock up an entire side of the field. There were at least two plays, though, where he bit on a fake and a wide receiver was left wide open up the sideline. Poteat is still a bit raw and can get by with elite athleticism. He’ll make significant gains as more reps come his way.

On offense, Poteat probably played close to 25 percent of the snaps for Verona. He lined out wide on all those opportunities and had six receptions. Had the Wildcats needed to get a bit more creative, Poteat could have impacted the game in the slot or even at running back. He catches the ball very well away from his body and is dangerous in the open field. He’s got some wiggle to him and it’s not surprising that some colleges are keeping receiver on the table at the next level.

On special teams, Poteat is dangerous in the return game. He took two kickoffs to midfield and did the same with a punt. If he fields the ball cleanly, Poteat is a threat to score every time as a returner. Not to be overshadowed, Poteat is also an excellent gunner for Verona, and he made at least two tackles and downed one ball inside the five-yard line during a 42-14 win over Indian Trail.

REMAINING QUESTIONS

I would have liked to have seen more of Poteat in coverage, but it’s not something I expected to see much of going in. I guess there are questions about where Poteat could play in college, but the answer - at least for me - is definitely cornerback. He already has the size, footwork, ability to flip his hips and athletic ability. Over the next two years, Poteat just needs to get stronger and focus on improving his technique.

OUTLOOK/RECRUITMENT

Sounds like Poteat will play this season out and start to focus on his top schools next spring. That makes a lot of sense for a prospect who is starting to hear from Ohio State, Georgia and Alabama, among other schools. I think Poteat is pretty wide open at this point, but I do see Wisconsin being there right until the very end. Poteat visited Madison four times since April, and he has a strong connection with both Luke Fickell and Paul Haynes. Will he eventually end up at UW? I think it’s way too early to make any predictions in his recruitment right now.

WISCONSIN COMPARISON ON THE CURRENT ROSTER

As stated above, Poteat makes an impact in all three facets of the game. With that, the in-state comparison that came to mind while watching him was Chimere Dike, who had a similar impact during his time at Waukesha North. Dike, of course, was always going to play receiver in college, and I envision Poteat playing corner at the next level.

So if we’re going with a cornerback with a similar skillset, I’d go with Alex Smith, though I do see Poteat contributing much earlier in his career in comparison to the sixth-year senior.

Let me know what you think.

So, let's tal about 2-3-4 stars in the 25 recruiting cycle

What bothers me is when people downgrade guys like Locke and Moss because they are 3 stars. C'mon they are 2 years away! Who thinks that they will get AT LEAST another star in the next 2 years? A 3 star as a sophomore is incredible! If they are downgraded, I'd be concerned, but when some posters say "well, they're only 3 stars", how many sophomores are solid 3 stars? They have time to get upgraded, and honestly, if the staff feels that they are worthy, who am I to disagree? By the time they are senior's, I would expect them to be 4-5 stars. jmo

Since we're on a FB bye week, let's talk BB

What are your predictions for this year? We only lose Jordan, but we gain Gus, Blackwell, Winter, Storr and Janicki. I, personally, am super excited for this year! We have depth everywhere this year and now have a slasher that we have been lacking since Johnny. I'd like another big man (since I don't think that Winter will be able to defend much this year) so hopefully Hodges can step a bit. Thoughts?

BASKETBALL Butch and Wills join Badger Radio Network basketball broadcast

Butch and Wills join Badger Radio Network basketball broadcast
UW announces voices for Wisconsin basketball lead analyst position

Sept. 28, 2023

MADISON, Wis. – The Badger Radio Network is adding a pair of Wisconsin men's basketball champions to its broadcast team to join the Voice of the Badgers, Matt Lepay, beginning this season.

Brian Butch, a Big Ten champion at Wisconsin in 2008 and a 10-year professional player, will take over as the lead men's basketball analyst for the Badger Radio Network beginning this season. In addition, Charlie Wills, who won a Big Ten title in 2002 and was a member of UW's Final Four team in 2000, will add to the team by filling in the analyst role for select games.

"Wisconsin basketball is truly a special program and I'm honored to have the chance to work next to the legend Matt Lepay." Butch said. "I loved every minute of my time at the University of Wisconsin and I cannot wait to be a part of the next chapter of Badgers basketball."

Butch's expanded role will also include helping produce additional content for Wisconsin Athletics and LEARFIELD/Badger Sports Properties.

"I am honored, excited and in a way thrilled to be reconnected to UW men's hoops, which has already afforded me so many great memories and relationships," Wills said. "It's an added bonus to get the opportunity to work with the best in the business in Matt Lepay. I am going to have fun working with both Matt and Brian this season."

"It's exciting to add Brian and Charlie to our broadcasting team," Voice of the Badgers, Matt Lepay said. "As Wisconsin fans know, each of these two were integral pieces of championship seasons, and through the years they have stayed very connected to the program. On top of that, both 'Butchie' and Charlie are really good people who represent the University of Wisconsin in a first-class manner. I look forward to working with them."

"Having two former Badger men's basketball standouts providing commentary on our radio broadcasts is going to be outstanding," UW Director of Athletics Chris McIntosh said. "Brian and Charlie know the game and they know our program. They are going to provide great insights for our fans and will be an excellent complement to Matt Lepay."

BRIAN BUTCH
A standout for the Wisconsin men's basketball program from 2004-08, Brian Butch was a member of UW's 2007-08 team that won both the Big Ten regular season and tournament championships. A consensus first-team All-Big Ten selection as a senior in 2008, he finished his career ranked 24th in school history with 1,115 career points and ranked ninth with 667 career rebounds.

Butch went on to enjoy a 10-year career playing professional basketball, which included stops overseas, in the NBA Development League, and time with the Denver Nuggets. After his time as a player, Butch spent two years as a coaching associate with the Wisconsin Herd of the NBA G-League from 2017-19.

In 2019, Butch joined FOX and the Big Ten Network as a game and studio analyst for men's basketball. Working radio since 2018, Butch worked with Woodward Radio from 2018-2022 and started at iHeartRadio in 2020 co-hosting shows as on-air talent.

CHARLIE WILLS
A member of Wisconsin's Final Four team in 2000 under head coach Dick Bennett, Charlie Wills also played an integral role in 2001-02 for the Bo Ryan led Badgers, which claimed a share of the Big Ten regular season title for the first time since 1947.

Wills played in every game (129 straight) over his four-year collegiate career with the Badgers (1998-2002), which included making 61 starts. He finished his career ranked fourth on Wisconsin's all-time games played list and started all 32 games of his senior year.

For three years, Wills has gained experience in sports broadcasting working with WPTV.
