USC game

After seeing Michigan dominate USC with 32 yards passing, knowing our strength is the air raid…defensive strength is the linebackers, especially the edges with the pass rush, this should be a blowout, right?
Have to believe Locke and Longo can get to 33 or 34 yards.

Just trying to get on the same page with all the kool aid drinkers and booger pickers 😜😜

The game this weekend will go a long way to show the direction

Let's all be real, given the schedule, who thought we'd win one of these two games (Alabaman and USC)? I think everyone on this board thought that we had a tough schedule and we would have a barely over 500 record at the end of the year.

That said, they will have had 2 weeks to prepare and USC is coming off a loss where Michigan ran it hard down their throats. USC has a great offense, always has players, and we'll see if Tressel can get the D ready to play. I suspect they'll score between 24 and 40 points. How does the team work with Locke's "strengths" and put the offense in a place they can be successful? Can they run the ball effectively, can they run up tempo, can they pass effectively, will the receivers get separation?

If they lay an egg, it's going to be hard to see much success for the rest of the season and potentially spell a new direction needs to happen from the O OR D side of the ball. I was all in on Longo, but things just don't work like they should with him. The offense has sputtered a lot in his 18 months in the program. Hard to see if they can't move the ball he survives the week?

I'm potentially optimistic, but realistically, I'm just hoping for a competitive game.

In retrospect- the Fickell hire

Watching all of the LBs from UW succeed in the NFL is awesome to see. Also the O-Linemen and RBs such as Jonathan Taylor.
The Last couple of years under Chryst werent good and I still think we needed a change.
By going with Fickell instead of Leonard, did we lose any of our LB OL and RB Prowess?
Fickell seems to be bringing in more high level recruits overall.
Im not impressed with the new offense. Air Raid my ass. Would we have been better off Keeping a Pro style offense (Like Bama) but trying to add more Skill position guys with Fickells recruiting ?
Did losing Leonard kill our ability to play top tier defense and attract LBs?

So I guess this is more of a conversation and questions overall.

Time to begin the Mabrey Mettauer era in Madison?

It's not what we wanted. We wanted TVD to remain healthy and play well. If he's out for the season, however, and Locke struggles at USC after two weeks of prep, why not let Mettauer play to get the game experience he needs to develop during a season that seems to be a bust? Maybe he can give us some bright spots and some hope. I know there are lots of reasons to be cautious with him, and interested in what others here think on the topic.

FOOTBALL Wisconsin releases depth chart for Week 5 against USC

Not much different.

Mettauer in at QB2
Burroughs replaces Henry
Ashford jumps Nowakowski
Anthony now the top punt and kick returner

Rest of season....

I think we lose to Penn State and Oregon.... I think if we don't turn it over we can compete with USC, iowa, and nebraska...I think we beat purdue, rutgers, northwester, and minnesota.....that gets us to 6-6, 7-5, or 8-4...given the loss of our starting qb any of those records would be great...i think longo gets let go and we hire someone who runs a more power run offense with some variety in the passing game....hopefully the recruiting classes are held together and our current playmakers aren't poached....

College Football fandom

I think the combination of the current college football product and what is expected of fans has never been worse. The game itself is slow, with never ending commercial breaks. The constant commercials ruin the stadium experience. It is a blowout sport, with the tops teams being on a completely different level than everyone else. So many non-competitive games with huge point spreads. Every roster in constant flux with player transfers, rampant tampering, and poaching of players. Not knowing many of the players because of the constant player movement.

Yet more has never been expected from fans. They are supposed to support the university by buying more expensive season tickets that always include "buy" games against lower level opponents. Then pay mandatory donations on top of the ticket cost. And then they are constantly harassed to donate more money for NIL to pay for the players, most of whom end up being busts.

Compare this to the NFL, and the entire experience is inferior. The NFL has created competitive balance, with nearly every point spread being between 0 and 9 points. The majority of games come down to the last possession. The game is faster, ending in exactly 3 hours. Most importantly, the fans are not expected to pay for tickets and also pay the players' salaries through their donations. The owners pay the players, based on a well-regulated contract and cap system.

I always was a college football fan first and foremost, but at this point, I don't really feel that way. I'm sure I'm not alone.
